Lester Sprague

Lester Sprague is a native Long Islander with a long, successful career in Advertising and Industrial  Design in Manhattan.  He studied at  Pratt Institute, the Art Students League of Manhattan, the Museum of Modern Art, and the University of Florence, Italy.  His work ranges from realism to complete abstraction.  It is strongly experimental in nature both in conceptual design and use of media.
Lester has chaired a number of art exhibitions and is a member of numerous art organizations.  His award- winning work is located in many private collections both locally and abroad.  Lester believes that a sound, classically based background, with the overlay of an adventurous and experimental attitude, leads to exciting and satisfying art.
Lester has many artistic voices, making it difficult to categorize his work.  Lester’s works are varied in concepts and display a wide range of styles. No matter what the subject, he demonstrates a strong sense of design and a highly skilled use if media and technique.  Although often centered on nature or social conditions, his works are experimental and innovative in the use of materials and found objects.

Lester’s latest interest  in printmaking (monotype and woodcut) is an extension of all his previous efforts.
