LuAnn Thompson has been interested in art since a young child and her talent has stood out among her classmates. In high school she placed number one in commercial art in the local category and third in New York State in the VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) competition. She successfully started her career in 1977 as a technical illustrator for government contracts. In 1981 she did freelancing for many companies while raising her family, giving her both great experience and opportunities to work on many different projects. After freelancing for several years as a graphic artist she decided to take a job with a testing Laboratory as a Corporate Photographer, documenting environmental tests on new and government products, giving her a good background in the digital photography world. While working as a Digital Photographer she successfully completed several certificate courses in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Adobe Premier, and Web Design, to name a few. In 2000 she had the opportunity to work for Underwriters Laboratories in Melville as a Web Master, working in the communications department. She gained experience creating web sites for corporate initiatives and developing literature for sales and marketing. She also designed there the corporate News Letter and many other exciting projects as part of the communications department. In 2002 she won the “Make a Difference” award for developing and working on corporate initiatives, again standing out among her peers.
In 2003 another career change presented itself, where she used her talent to become a “Custom Picture Framer” after successfully completing a certificate class at the “American Picture Framing Academy.” Using her skills in marketing and design, while incorporating her life-long love of art, she creates a final product of an artists painting by presenting it at its best. Working with artists and taking her knowledge of editing, and color in Adobe Photoshop and her background as a digital photographer, she can produce Giclee prints with supreme quality which helps the artists develop their work and use the best presentation possible to exhibit their work to the public. In 2006 LuAnn became a partner at the “Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery” which allows her to use her skills in marketing, graphic design, and presentation to promote the Gallery. LuAnn is on the board of directors for the Bellport Chamber, and a member of the "PPFA" Professional Picture Framers Association. Currently LuAnn has opened her own Framing Studio to make herself more available to artists and her customers in the Bellport area.
